I'm Ian McPherson, and I'm the owner of Dead London Walking Tours.

I qualified as a City of London Guide in 2012 and London has been my long-term, adopted home for my entire adult life.  I was very proud to have recently been invited by the Lord Mayor to receive the Freedom of the City of London for volunteering in my community during the coronavirus crisis.

I'm fascinated by the darker side of the city's history, including the history of death, funerary customs, crime and capital punishment and how London has been affected by outbreaks of contagious disease. I'm particularly interested in 17th century history, especially the events surrounding the Great Plague of 1665.

This is the reason I set up Dead London Walking Tours, ironically at a time whilst the world continues to be blighted by another serious outbreak of contagious disease!

I meet people from all over the world whilst I'm guiding and I get to introduce them to a subject I'm extremely passionate about.  That makes me consider myself extremely lucky and privileged because I get to make a living by doing something I truly love.

Ian is a fully-qualified City of London Guide, meaning that he has completed an extensive course and sat a series of exams moderated by the Institute of Tourist Guiding before obtaining his highly-coveted badge.  He knows what he's talking about.
