Q. Where do we meet?

A. The tour departs from just outside the exit to Tower Hill Underground Station, which is served by the District and Circle Lines (see map). It's also just a short walk from Tower Gateway DLR station and Fenchurch Street Station. If you prefer taking the bus, routes 78, 343, 42 and 100 stop at Tower Gateway Station and route15 stops at the Tower of London. Both are a minute's walk from Tower Hill Underground Station. You'll see the Plague Doctor and know you're in the right place.

Q. How long is the tour?
A. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and covers 1.7 miles (2.7 km) at an easy walking pace. The route has been designed so that there are often places to sit down at many of the stops, if you wish to do so.

Q. Do you do private tours?

A. In addition to our regular advertised public tours, we are happy to consider running private tours. Email us at info@deadlondon.co.uk for more details.

Q. What is your refund policy?

A. Customers can change the date of their tour for any reason by contacting us by email up to 24 hours before the tour. Refunds will not normally be given to customers who miss their tour due to late arrival or if they fail to show up at the date and time of their tour without first having contacted us. For full details see our Terms & Conditions.

Q. What happens if it rains?

A. It rains in Britain. A lot! It's all part of the London experience. The walk will continue rain, hail or shine. However, we obviously want you to enjoy your tour, and we're all about flexibility. If it's raining very heavily at the start of the tour your guide will offer you the option of re-booking for another date, being refunded or carrying on with the tour as planed.
Q. Is the tour safe?
A. Your tour is led by a fully-qualified and fully-insured City of London Guide. That means that the guide has had to pass stringent exams to show they are not only knowledgeable about the City and its history, but are also able to provide safe tours. The walk does take place on the busy streets of London so all participants are required to take care, especially when crossing the road.

Q. Is the tour Covid-secure?

A. When doing our walking tour you are always outside in the fresh air and you can spread out. What's more, we cap our group size to an absolute maximum of 15 participants. So, of all the social activities you could be engaging in, walking tours are one of the safest in these times of coronavirus.

Q. Why have I been advised to bring my phone on the tour?
A. We use a special smartphone app to enable the guide to show you photos, images, maps and video that help bring your tour to life. The app is normally used in schools and colleges but we've decided to take it outside because it also works brilliantly on guided walks. It's recommended that you download this free app at the beginning of your tour, although you obviously don't have to. If you're worried about data costs, the guide provides free wifi to all customers who want it.
Q. Is this tour suitable for children?
A. Our plague-themed walk contains some adult themes and is based around a terrible disease that killed tens of thousands of people. Younger children may find this a little frightening (although we've also had feedback that many kids love the gruesome and the macabre content). Parental discretion is advised, and all children under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Q. Can I buy a ticket from the guide as well as booking online?

A. Booking online is the easiest way to secure a space on the 'Pestilence' tour. However, you can buy a paper ticket directly from the Plague Doctor if you see him around. Please note that at present we can only accept payment for such physical tickets in cash. If booking online you have the choice of paying by credit/debit card or with PayPal.

Q. Is the tour fully accessible?
A. We cover 1.7 miles on the tour at a leisurely pace. The route can be adjusted slightly to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all. We've had previous experience leading tours for people with visual impairments and wheelchair users. If you have any questions or concerns please email us before booking so that we can make the necessary adjustments.
